Love and Longing
Goddess invented longing
Woman is its embodiment
With this fragile emotion of love
she bestowed upon us
something so tangibly felt
yet impossible to hold
Felt in our gut
gripping at our heart
A mother giving of herself to create life
a child that will grow to forget his home inside her
She bares the scars on her body
the empty space in her belly
yet she does not forget
and she does not stop loving
If that is not the definition of longing
I don’t know what is
We are capable of feeling so much
in this short time we have
but we do not own these feelings
they are not ours
to keep wrapped up and hidden from the world
for when hidden, they are lost
only when exposed do they reach their full potency
Without the longing
without our surrender to love and life
as it blossoms out of our control
we are empty shells roaming the desert
With longing there is pain and heartbreak, yes
loss and regret
there is also love and belonging
an opening
a promise of wholeness
as we expand our ability to feel
and allow
and let go
